Why investing in porous pavers is more important than you think

You may have recently decided to pave an area of your home, or come to the realisation that its time to upgrade an existing paved area. While there are lots of choices out there, porous pavers – often called permeable pavers – are the most beneficial investment.

Here’s why you should choose the green paving method.

Environmentally Conscious

First and foremost are the benefits these pavers have on the environment. They’re not dubbed ‘green pavers’ for no reason. Due to their permeability, water is able to pass through them and into the underlying soil. They consist of tiny holes, allowing rain water to filter as it seeps through, reducing the pollutants that ultimately enter the soil beneath.

Due to the drainage capabilities of porous pavers, they massively reduce stormwater runoff and subsequently the contaminants that come with it. Polluted waterways are far too prevalent nowadays and these pavers help to combat the issue. Surfaces that consist of concrete or non-permeable paving promote increased stormwater runoff and therefore pollutants into the natural waterways. This alone is enough to opt for the green pavers.

Lower stormwater runoff also means streams and rivers are far less likely to flood, reducing erosion rates.

Tailored To Your Home

Porous pavers are generally used for things like driveways, small parking lots and other relatively low-traffic areas, but not commonly enough. Even though they are permeable, these pavers provide a very solid surface and can withstand heavy vehicles.

There are unlimited possibilities when it comes to pavers, so it is easy to choose a style and colour that will suit the scheme of your house. Some varieties can be laid further apart, allowing grass to grow in between. This can be a very attractive look for an outdoor setting if its kept clean.

Inexpensive

On top of their extensive environmental benefits, porous pavers are relatively cheap and quite easy to install. They’re certainly as durable as concrete and asphalt pavers yet they are cheaper, and the labour required to install them is also less.

One of the biggest assets of these pavers is that they do not require an underlying drainage system. Concrete and asphalt surfaces have these systems in place to control water during rain and flooding, yet they’re not needed with permeable paving which saves a lot of money.

They can also be constructed using recyclable materials, which makes them a far better choice than their alternatives.
