The History of Sir Walter turf

Sir Walter Turf has no doubt became the number one preferred buffalo turf amongst Australians today. Now DNA certified, Sir Walter turf has maintained its status due to a rich history where it has triumphed customer expectations to this very day. Here is a brief insight to burgeoning roots and triumph of Sir Walter turf.

Sir Walter Turf, also known as St. Augustine Grass was bred in 1996. Developed in the Hunter Valley in New South Wales, by Brent Redman - it was created due to current buffalo lawns on the market not catering to customer needs.

With changes to customer residential properties (larger houses and lawns) the prior lawns proved to be tough leaf blades that weren’t able to withstand the tough Australian climate. Prior to Sir Walter Turf, the solution to meeting customer needs involved bringing in different varieties of lawns – however, none were able to withstand the Australian climate. Although prior versions maintained some popularity due to their heat resistance and low water consumption – markets declined due to the slow time it took to establish, its inability to keep its colour during the changing Australian climate and the rashes that children seemed to get when playing out on the lawns.

Sir Walter Turf proved to be much more climate resistance to its counterparts. Furthermore, it proved more disease resilient, pest resistant and fungus resistance than previous versions of buffalo grass. With it’s unparalleled, resilience – Sir Walter Turf also had the ability to thrive in both shaded and sun areas all while still maintaining its crisp, green colour throughout the harsh Australian climates.

After fifteen years and throughout its rigorous testing that it's undertaken over the years, Sir Walter Turf has remained the number one lawn used by Australians today with over 35 million meters being sold since its introduction. For peace of mind, it carries a 10-year warranty, secured by Lawn Solutions Australia.
